Doctor, Keynote Speaker … and Master of Ceremonies, Too!

You’ve got your great venue!  You have your theme!  You have a terrific agenda with great breakout and keynote speakers (hopefully including the Healthy Humorist)!  But who’s going to be your Master of Ceremonies?!  You can’t expect boring old Bill from the C-Suite to emcee the event.  He’s a terrible speaker who’s going to put everyone to sleep!  And Amy is always so awkward in front of a crowd!  Richard just reads whatever is put in front of him in his trademark monotone.

I wanted to say thank you once again for a tremendous job last night! I have received so many messages from people who enjoyed the program and said you did a fantastic job! I appreciate your flexibility and patience as we worked through the backend with the production company and platform. It has been a challenge to pull this together and I am grateful that we had you as our MC and entertainer!

No, you need a pro to make your program flow!  Someone who prepares with great professionalism and attention to detail ahead of your event.  Someone who can cover the basic announcements and speaker introductions without mispronouncing the big words!  Someone who can be a clear communicator and problem solver should anything go awry.  Someone who can facilitate Q&A without it devolving into chaos.  Someone who can keep participants engaged throughout the event.  Yes, you need Dr. Brad!

If it’s a healthcare meeting, all the better!  Dr. Brad understands healthcare executives and busy providers like doctors and nurses.  He can sense when they feel their valuable time is being wasted.  He speaks their language.  He understands health-related content.  He knows how to pronounce “esophageal.”  Yes, Dr. Brad’s medical knowledge and lighthearted approach combine to make an otherwise dry and complex meeting lively and engaging.

Hey, DoC, Just What does “Master of Ceremonies” mean?

Whether it’s a corporate event, an association annual meeting, an awards night, a charity gala or a community health fair, you probably need one.  And you can call it what you will (and spell it however you like): “Master of Ceremonies,” “Master of Ceremony,” “MC,” “M.C.” or “emcee.”  It’s the person who serves as the host, welcomes your participants, explains the necessary logistics (bathrooms to the right, exits in the back!), offers an overview of the agenda and then guides attendees through the meeting, ensuring a smooth, cohesive flow to the entire event.  The MC will introduce presenters, make necessary announcements, facilitate discussions and keep everyone engaged.

Brad served two roles as part of the Indiana University School of Medicine’s Medical Alumni Weekend (reunion weekend). He served as the emcee for an awards luncheon and later that evening performed a stand-up routine for our alumni and their guests. Brad was terrific in both roles. He delivered a clean, witty performance that resonated with our audience. There was plenty of laughing out loud throughout. Brad was easy to work with from start to finish. The compliments from our guests were too numerous to count. I hope to have Brad return to Indianapolis here soon.

Dr. Brad can keep it business-like if you like.  He can cover the basics and keep the agenda flowing.  He can stay serious as your program moves from serious topic to serious topic.  But even better: he can serve as a funny emcee, keeping the agenda moving with energy and a hearty dose of humor and laughter!  He can tie together other speakers and topics and maintain an atmosphere in the room that’s comfortable, enjoyable and memorable.  Dr. Brad’s personality, charm and light-hearted approach will keep participants attentive, entertained and happy when they might otherwise start snoring!

“Brad was the emcee for our 30th anniversary celebration and fundraiser and did a great job. We don’t usually “do comedy,” but he struck the perfect balance - edgy enough to be truly funny without going too far. Very bright, very funny, very professional. We would totally work with him again if the occasion arises.”
